Mata kuliah Islam, Sains, dan Teknologi dirancang untuk mengajak mahasiswa memahami hubungan antara iman, ilmu pengetahuan, dan perkembangan teknologi dalam kehidupan modern. Sains dan teknologi telah membentuk hampir seluruh aspek kehidupan manusia: cara belajar, bekerja, berkomunikasi, berobat, berdakwah, mengakses informasi, hingga membayangkan masa depan. Namun, kemajuan tersebut tidak selalu netral. Di balik manfaatnya, teknologi juga membawa persoalan etis, sosial, spiritual, ekologis, dan kemanusiaan.
Dalam perspektif Islam, ilmu bukan sekadar alat untuk menguasai alam atau menghasilkan kemajuan material. Ilmu adalah amanah yang harus digunakan untuk menghadirkan kebaikan, menjaga martabat manusia, memperkuat keadilan, dan merawat kehidupan. Al-Qur’an mendorong manusia untuk membaca, berpikir, mengamati, meneliti, serta mengambil pelajaran dari tanda-tanda Allah di alam semesta dan dalam kehidupan manusia. Karena itu, pencarian ilmu dan pengembangan teknologi perlu dihubungkan dengan kesadaran tauhid, tanggung jawab moral, dan orientasi kemaslahatan.
Mata kuliah ini tidak hanya membahas bahwa Islam mendukung sains, tetapi juga mengajak mahasiswa memahami bagaimana sains berkembang lintas peradaban, bagaimana hubungan agama dan sains diperdebatkan, bagaimana Islam memberi motivasi terhadap pencarian ilmu, serta bagaimana teknologi modern mengubah cara manusia memahami diri dan dunia. Mahasiswa juga diajak menilai persoalan etika, keadilan, data, kecerdasan buatan, dan dampak teknologi terhadap masyarakat.
Melalui pendekatan reflektif dan aplikatif, mata kuliah ini mendorong mahasiswa untuk tidak hanya menjadi pengguna teknologi, tetapi juga menjadi subjek yang kritis, etis, kreatif, dan bertanggung jawab. Salah satu bagian penting dari perkuliahan ini adalah co-creation project, yaitu kegiatan sederhana untuk membaca masalah nyata di masyarakat dan merancang solusi berbasis teknologi yang bermanfaat, adil, dan sesuai dengan nilai Islam.
Dengan demikian, mata kuliah Islam, Sains, dan Teknologi menjadi ruang pembelajaran untuk menghubungkan ayat, akal, data, teknologi, dan amal. Tujuan akhirnya adalah membentuk mahasiswa Muslim yang mampu berpikir ilmiah, beriman secara reflektif, menggunakan teknologi secara bijak, serta menghadirkan kontribusi nyata bagi masyarakat dan masa depan kemanusiaan.
The course Islam, Science, and Technology is designed to help students understand the relationship between faith, scientific knowledge, and technological development in modern life. Science and technology have shaped almost every aspect of human existence: the ways people learn, work, communicate, seek healthcare, conduct da‘wah, access information, and imagine the future. However, progress is never entirely neutral. Behind its benefits, technology also brings ethical, social, spiritual, ecological, and humanitarian challenges.
From an Islamic perspective, knowledge is not merely a tool for mastering nature or producing material progress. Knowledge is a trust that must be used to bring goodness, protect human dignity, strengthen justice, and care for life. The Qur’an encourages human beings to read, think, observe, investigate, and learn from the signs of Allah in the universe and in human life. Therefore, the pursuit of knowledge and the development of technology should be connected to the consciousness of tawhid, moral responsibility, and the orientation toward public benefit.
This course does not only discuss the idea that Islam supports science. It also invites students to understand how science has developed across civilizations, how the relationship between religion and science has been debated, how Islam motivates the pursuit of knowledge, and how modern technology transforms the way human beings understand themselves and the world. Students are also encouraged to examine issues of ethics, justice, data, artificial intelligence, and the impact of technology on society.
Through a reflective and applicative approach, this course encourages students not only to become users of technology, but also critical, ethical, creative, and responsible subjects. One important component of the course is the co-creation project, a simple activity in which students identify real problems in society and design technology-based solutions that are beneficial, just, and aligned with Islamic values.
Thus, Islam, Science, and Technology becomes a learning space that connects revelation, reason, data, technology, and action. Its ultimate goal is to shape Muslim students who are able to think scientifically, live their faith reflectively, use technology wisely, and make meaningful contributions to society and the future of humanity.
